NRB Appoints new Governor

Congratulations Mr. Maha Prasad Adhikari on being appointed as the 17th governor of Nepal Rastra Bank.

Mr. Adhikari along with former secretary Keshav Prasad Bhattarai and deputy governor Chintamani Siwakoti were the candidates chosen for the top job at the central bank of Nepal by the recommendation committee coordinated by Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada.

As per the decision of the council of ministers on April 6, 2020, Mr. Adhikari was appointed as the Governor. Mr. Chintamani Siwakoti was serving as the acting governor till date. Taking over the NRB leadership will be like a homecoming for Adhikari as he spent over two decades of his career there. He had retired as the deputy governor in December 2015. As the deputy governor, he worked in close contacts with current Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada who was the NRB governor from 2010 to 2015.

Mr. Adhikari is currently serving as the chief executive officer of Nepal Investment Board. Mr. Adhikari is a chartered accountant by training, and he has enriched his knowledge and proved himself to be an expert in monetary economics, international finance and banking regulations during his career in the central bank. He is considered a leader and an expert in the field of banking regulations.
